Small Chair Conversations is a father-and-son interview project built around curiosity, respect and care. Safeguarding is part of how every conversation is planned, recorded and published.

Andras’s wellbeing, safety, education and enjoyment come before schedules, audience growth or any other project objective. This page provides a public summary of our approach; more detailed internal policies and risk assessments support the project.

Andras’s wellbeing and supervision

Andras is at the heart of Small Chair Conversations – not only as its host, but as a young person whose feelings, ideas and choices genuinely matter. His participation is always voluntary, and he can ask for a change, take a break or stop a recording at any time. He is never expected to continue if he is tired, uncomfortable or simply no longer enjoying the experience.

His father, Tamas, remains present throughout every recording and takes responsibility for his supervision and welfare. Sessions are planned around Andras’s health, education and family life – not the other way around. Where a licence, authorisation or other permission is required, recording will not proceed until it is in place.

Planning and recording safely

Every conversation is planned in advance with the guest. The purpose, proposed questions, approximate timing, location and intended publication are discussed before recording. Questions can be changed or removed, and nobody is expected to discuss something they do not wish to share.

Each location is considered for suitability, privacy and safety before recording. Sessions are deliberately kept manageable, with time allowed for setup, breaks and stopping early if needed. For safeguarding reasons, future recording dates and precise locations involving Andras are not published in advance.

Consent, choice and publication

Participation is voluntary. Guests are told in advance how and where a conversation may be used and published, and written media consent is obtained before recording. They may decline any question, request a break or stop the conversation at any time.

Where a guest is under 18, their own willing agreement and written permission from a parent or carer with parental responsibility are required. An adult signature is never treated as a substitute for the young person feeling comfortable and wanting to take part. A responsible adult remains involved throughout the arrangements and recording.

We also explain that material published online may be copied or shared and can be difficult to retrieve completely once it has become public.

Privacy and online communication

We do not publish Andras’s school, home address, routine or other information that could reveal his regular location. Photographs and recordings are reviewed before publication for unnecessary personal or location-identifying details.

Project enquiries and online communication are managed by Tamas through the official Small Chair Conversations email address and social-media accounts. Andras is not expected to communicate privately with viewers, prospective guests or other adults, and people are not encouraged to contact him directly.

Consent records and unpublished material are kept securely and accessed only for legitimate project purposes. Inappropriate or unsafe messages and comments may be removed, blocked or reported where necessary.

Raising a safeguarding concern

Safeguarding responsibility for Small Chair Conversations sits with Tamas, Andras’s father and the adult responsible for the project. If you have a concern about the safety or wellbeing of a child connected with the project, please email contact@smallchairconversations.com and share only the information needed to explain the concern.

Concerns are taken seriously and handled carefully. Confidentiality cannot be promised where information may need to be shared to protect a child or meet a legal safeguarding responsibility.

If a concern relates to Tamas, or you would prefer not to contact the project, it should be reported directly to the relevant local authority Children’s Services or the police. If a child appears to be in immediate danger, contact the emergency services rather than waiting for a response from Small Chair Conversations.

Independent reporting information for children in Mid and West Wales is available through the CYSUR Regional Safeguarding Board.

Policies, training and review

Small Chair Conversations maintains a Child Protection Policy and Production Risk Assessment, supported by consent records and location-specific safety checks. These working documents are reviewed as the project develops and whenever circumstances change.

Tamas has completed the NSPCC Learning course Introduction to safeguarding and child protection. Training supports, but does not replace, the responsibility to seek appropriate advice and report concerns when necessary.

Safeguarding is not a box we consider ticked. It remains an ongoing responsibility and will continue to develop with the project.
